On November 10th, AAHS students and staff took time out of the school day to gather and remember the importance of our nation's veterans. Veterans and active duty military who were in attendance were honored with a saber salute as they entered the gym and were seated. The Star-Spangled Banner, along with other patriotic songs, were performed by the 101st Army National Guard Woodwind quartet. They were accompanied by ASL students who signed the words to the national anthem. Special speaker, Col. Kurt Wendt, Director of the Center for Character and Leadership Development at USAFA told several stories highlighting the heroic acts of veterans throughout our history, from WWII to the present. He quoted President Ronald Reagan, "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction..." and encouraged students who may decide to serve their country in the future.
