Air Academy students Vincent Irizarry, Erica Lepine, and Christian Raker from the AFJROTC program will all be headed to civilian universities for the summer to earn their private pilot license thanks to an Air Force scholarship.  This extremely competitive scholarship program selected approximately 200 cadets in the AFJROTC program nationwide.  They will be immersed in ground school classes and flying lessons six days a week for eight weeks with the goal of passing the FAA written exam and flight exam resulting in a pilot license at the completion of the program.  The scholarship includes transportation, meals and lodging, tuition, plane rental, and instructor fees.  The intent of the program is to reduce the pilot shortage in both the military and commercial aviation fields in the United States by encouraging high school students to pursue a career in aviation.
